Mallett and Company extends a very special thank you to the Beaumont Independent School District participants for all of your hard work and active participation during the recent gifted and talented training sessions!!! Mallett & Company thanks Mr. Frank Brocato, coordinator for gifted and talented services, for the opportunity to work with the educators and administrators during these training sessions. Comments from the BISD Participants: “Having received the gifted and talented training, I truly feel much more confidence in being able to meet the educational needs of all learners.” Paul Ledet “Deborah Mallett’s gifted and talented training has equipped me to broaden the horizons of my students, so that they can spread their wings and soar.” Joan Schiesler “This gifted and talented training presented by Deborah Mallett has taught me a great deal. It has enabled me to better teach the gifted and talented, helping them to excel in whatever area of interests they have.” Lillian Hebert, Vincent Middle School “Debbie’s training has given me knowledge about gifted and talented students. I am now more conscience of characteristics that will identify those students. I am learning about the need of the students and the need for teachers to be trained to meet those levels of needs and understand learning styles. This is vital for gifted learners to grow and mature.” Laura Grimes, Ogden Elementary “This is one of the best workshop that I have ever been in. (Nature and Needs of the Gifted and Talented) I learned valuable lessons. Thanks.” “Nature and Needs of the Gifted and Talented demonstrates and illustrates how to truly integrate all areas of giftedness into the curriculum.” Tara Cook “This session (Nature and Needs of the Gifted and Talented) was very beneficial to me. Nobody has ever identified me as gifted, but I know that I am. I have a doctorate degree. I have learned more about me, myself, and I! Now, I can identify and relate to others who are gifted and talented.” Dr. K. TAGT Educator and Parent Conference, Houston, 2007 The training sessions for the TAGT Conference in Houston went very well. The conference was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in November. Mallett & Company completed four sessions with approximately 200 participants. Thank you to every one who participated in the sessions. There were a variety of participants who were interested in the session regarding individual education plans for the gifted learners. Clearly this is an area of concern among parents. Here is a special comment from one of the participants. “At this year’s TAGT conference in Houston, I attended Deborah’s session on writing an IEP for gifted students. This is something that needs to be implemented for our gifted students in Texas; and, it was interesting to hear Debbie’s knowledge and expertise on this subject. She gave many practical strategies for writing an IEP, including who should be involved in the process, what information needs to be included and how to incorporate this information into a workable IEP. Thanks Deborah for making educators and administrators more aware of the needs of our gifted students!” Nicole Clark Dumas ISD Thank you, Nicole for your participation and for your comment! CONCERNS At the conference Mallett & Company had some concerns about the etiquette of some of the participants.
